ก่อนที่น้องๆ จะเริ่มลงมือเรียน IELTS/ติว IELTS อย่าพึ่งรีบไป focus ที่การหาเทคนิคการอ่าน หรือ เทคนิคทำข้อสอบ แต่อยากให้น้องๆ focus ก่อนว่า หน้าตาข้อสอบมันเป็นยังไง ต้องเข้าไปเจอกับอะไรในข้อสอบบ้าง? ซึ่งวันนี้ พี่ๆ KPH ก็ได้รวบรวม สิ่งที่น้องจะต้องเจอในข้อสอบ IELTS Reading มาให้แบบ ละเอียดยิบๆ ทุกซอกทุกมุมเลยทีเดียว ถ้าใครพร้อมแล้วไปดูกัน
รูปแบบของข้อสอบ IELTS Reading
ขั้นแรกเรามารู้จัก รูปแบบของข้อสอบ IELTS Reading กันก่อน ข้อสอบ IELTS Reading จะเป็น Section ที่ 2 ต่อมาจากพาร์ท Listening ซึ่งพาร์ท Reading นั้นจะใช้เวลาทั้งหมด 60 นาที ในการอ่าน 3 passages เรียงจากง่ายสุดไปยากสุด และตอบคำถามทั้งหมด 40 ข้อ ตก passage ละประมาณ 13-14 ข้อ รูปแบบคำถามจะมีหลากหลายสไตล์ ทั้งแบบเติมคำและแบบ multiple choices
แต่ละ Passage จะมีความยาวอยู่ที่ประมาณ 2 หน้ากระดาษ หรือประมาณ 9-10 paragraph paragraph ละ 3-5 บรรทัด ซึ่งถือว่าค่อนข้างยาวเลยทีเดียว น้องๆ มีเวลาอ่าน และตอบคำถามของ ไม่เกิน 20 นาทีต่อ 1 passage
Passage ที่นำมาออกข้อสอบ IELTS Reading นั้น จะมีหัวข้อที่หลากหลาย แต่จะเป็นหัวข้อที่สามารถที่เจอได้รอบๆตัว หาอ่านได้ตาม หนังสือพิมพ์ นิตยสาร บทความตีพิมพ์ต่างๆ เพราะฉะนั้นหนึ่งในวิธีการเรียน IELTS/ติว IELTS Reading ที่ดีที่สุด ก็คือการฝึกอ่าน สิ่งที่อยู่รอบๆ ตัวให้ได้มากที่สุด
3 Types of IELTS Reading Questions
ข้อสอบ IELTS Reading จะมีสไตล์คำถามที่ค่อนข้างหลากหลาย ซึ่งจะมองว่าเป็นเรื่องที่ดีก็ได้ เพราะ การทำข้อสอบ IELTS จะไม่น่าเบื่อเลย มี diagram ให้ดู มีช่องว่างให้เติม มีตัวอักษรให้เลือก หรือจะมองเป็นเรื่องที่ไม่ดีก็ได้ เพราะสไตล์คำถามที่หลากหลาย อาจจะยากสำหรับใครหลายๆคน ที่ต้องทำความคุ้นเคย กับทุกสไตล์ แทนที่จะฝึกสไตล์เดียวให้ชำนาญไปเลย ซึ่งใน blog นี้ พี่ๆ KPH ก็ได้รวบรวม สไตล์คำถามในข้อสอบ IELTS Reading มาให้ และแบ่งออกเป็นประเภทๆ ทั้งหมด 3 ประเภทใหญ่ๆ 12 ประเภทย่อยๆ ด้วยกัน
Type 1 : Matching / จับคู่
คำถาม IELTS Reading ประเภทแรก คือ การจับคู่ ซึ่งคำถามประเภทนี้ ก็แบ่งออกย่อยๆ ได้อีกถึง 4 แบบย่อยๆ
Matching Sentence Endings
คำถามประเททนี้ คือการจับคู่ information ครึ่งแรกกับ information ครึ่งหลังโดยน้อง ๆ จะได้รับ ประโยคที่ไม่สมบูรณ์มาให้ โดยที่แต่ละประโยคนั้น จะให้มาเฉพาะช่วงครึ่งแรกของประโยคเท่านั้น หน้าที่ของน้อง ๆ คือ หาครึ่งหลังของประโยคมาเติมให้ถูกต้อง ซึ่งข้อสอบ จะให้ครึ่งหลังของประโยคมาในรูปแบบของ Choice A,B,C,,, อยู่แล้ว น้อง ๆ แค่เลือก Choice ที่ถูกต้องมาใส่ในแต่ละข้อ เพื่อให้ประโยคสมบูรณ์ โดยที่ความหมายของประโยคนั้น สอดคล้องกับสิ่งที่อ่านมาใน Passage มากที่สุด
Tips :
ความยากของการตอบคำถามประเภทนี้ คือ ทุก Choice ดูจะเข้ากันได้หมด ดูเหมือนกับว่าจะเอาไปใส่กับข้อไหนก็ได้ แต่จริงๆ แล้ว ถ้าเราอ่าน passage ให้ละเอียด จะรู้ว่า Choice แต่ละตัว จะ match กับแค่หนึ่งข้อเท่านั้น ดังนั้น เทคนิคสำหรับการทำโจทย์สไตล์นี้คือ ให้ double check โดยการกลับไป scan passage อีกครั้งนึง แล้ว make sure ว่า ประโยคนั้น สอดคล้องกับ passage ทั้งครึ่งแรก และครึ่งหลัง

Matching Headings
คำถามประเภทนี้ คือการจับคู่ Heading กับ Paragraphโดยน้องๆ จะต้องทำการตั้งชื่อให้แต่ละ Paragraph ว่าแต่ละ Paragraph นั้นควรเรียกว่าอะไร ข้อสอบจะให้ list of headings หัวข้อทั้งหมดมาในรูปแบบของ Choice i,ii,iii... หน้าที่ของน้อง ๆ คือ อ่าน Choice ที่ให้มา แล้วพิจารณาว่า paragraph ไหน เหมาะสมกับ Choice ใด ชื่อหัวข้ออะไรมากที่สุด
Tips:
เนื่องจากชื่อที่เราจะตั้งนั้น จะต้องสอดคล้องกับเนื้อหา “ทั้ง paragraph” เพราะฉะนั้นหลังจากอ่านเนื้อหในแต่ละ paragraph แล้ว น้องต้องรู้ว่า หลักๆ แล้ว paragraph นั้นกำลังพูดถึงเรื่องอะไรอยู่ main idea คืออะไร และ purpose ของ paragraph คืออะไร

Matching Features/Characteristics
คำถามประเภทนี้คือการจับคู่ลักษณะ/คุณสมบัติ (Features/Characteristics) เข้ากับ สิ่งของ/บุคคล/สถานการณ์หลายๆ ครั้งที่ passage ที่ข้อสอบ IELTS นำมาให้อ่าน พูดถึงสิ่งของหลายๆ สิ่ง / บุคคลหลายๆ คน / สถานการณ์หลายๆ สถานการณ์ ส่วนใหญ่แล้วจะมีประมาณ 2-3 สิ่ง/บุคคล/สถานการณ์ หลังจากนั้นคำถามประเภทนี้จะให้เราสรุปว่า ข้อมูลชิ้นนี้ เป็นของ สิ่งใด/บุคคลใด/สถานการณ์ใด ยกตัวอย่างเช่น คำพูด X เป็นคำพูดของใคร, คุณสมบัติ Y นี้เป็นของสิ่งของชิ้นไหน เป็นต้น
โดยที่ สิ่งของ/บุคคล/สถานการณ์เหล่านั้น จะถูกเรียงออกมาเป็น Choice A,B,C… หน้าที่ของน้อง ๆ คือ อ่านข้อมูลที่คำถามให้มาในแต่ละข้อ แล้วพิจารณาว่า ข้อมูลนั้นเป็นข้อมูลของ สิ่งใด/บุคคลใด/สถานการณ์ใด และนำ Choice ไปตอบให้ถูกต้อง
Tips :
คำถามประเภทนี้จะชอบ การ paraphrase เอาประโยคที่อยู่ใน passage มาจัดเรียงประโยคใหม่ เปลี่ยนคำศัพท์นิดหน่อย แต่ทุกอย่างยังคงความหมายเดิม ซึ่งจุดนี้จะทำให่หลายๆคนสับสนไม่น้อย ว่า feature ที่โจทย์ให้มาจะเป็นของใครกันแน่ ซึ่งจุดนี้คือจุดที่ต้องระวัง อ่านให้ถี่ถ้วน รอบคอบ และคิดให้ดี

คำถามประเภทนี้คือการจับคู่ Descriptions กับ paragraph น้องๆ จะได้ เนื้อหา ข้อมูล คำอธิบาย สั้นๆ มา อาจจะเป็น Main idea หรือ Supporting Detail ของ paragraph ใด paragraph หนึ่ง หน้าที่ของน้องๆ คือ นำไปจับคู่ว่า ข้อมูลนี้เป็นข้อมูลที่อยู่ใน paragraph ใด
Tips :
ระหว่างที่น้องๆ อ่าน Passage อยู่นั้น พยายาม highlight ในจุดที่สำคัญ/ main idea และ note คร่าวๆ ว่ามี supporting detail ตรงไหนบ้าง ทำเครื่องหมายอะไรเอาไว้หน่อย เวลากลับมา Check จะได้ทำได้ง่ายขึ้น เร็วขึ้น

Type 2 : Answer the question / ตอบคำถาม
สำหรับคำถามประเภทนี้จะไม่ใช่การจับคู่ แต่จะเป็นตอบคำถาม เกี่ยวกับเนื้อหาที่ได้อ่านมาจาก passage ซึ่งก็จะถูกแบ่งย่อยๆ ออกเป็น 3 ประเภทด้วยกัน
True/False/Not given and Yes/No/Not Given
คำถามประเภทนี้ คือ การตอบว่า ถูก หรือ ผิด หรือ ไม่ได้กล่าวไว้สำหรับ True/False/Not Given สิ่งที่น้องๆ ต้องทำก็คือ บอกให้ได้ว่า information ที่โจทย์ให้มานั้น มันถูก หรือ ผิด หรือ ไม่ได้กล่าวไว้ใน passage
ถ้าข้อมูลที่ให้มา ตรงกับที่ถูกกล่าวไว้ใน passage ให้ตอบ True
ถ้าข้อมูลที่ให้มา ไม่ตรงกับกับที่ถูกกล่าวไว้ใน passage ให้ตอบ False
ถ้าข้อมูลที่ให้มา ไม่ได้ถูกกล่าวถึงเลยใน passage/ออกนอกประเด็น นอกเหนือจากที่กล่าวไว้ ให้ตอบ Not Given
สำหรับ Yes/No/Not Given สิ่งที่น้องๆ ต้องทำคือ ดูว่าข้อมูลที่ให้มา สะท้อนความคิดเห็นของผู้เขียนหรือปล่าว
ถ้าข้อมูลที่ให้มา สะท้อนความคิดของผู้เขียน ให้ตอบ Yes
ถ้าข้อมูลที่ให้มา ตรงข้าม/ขัดแย้ง กับความคิดของผู้เขียน ให้ตอบ No
ถ้าข้อมูลที่ให้มา ผู้เขียนไม่ได้แสดงความคิดเห็นเอาไว้ ให้ตอบว่า Not Given
Tips
ข้อผิดพลาดที่พี่ๆ KPH เจอบ่อยๆ คือ น้องๆ จะสับสนระหว่าง No/False กับ Not Given หลายๆ คนจะคิดว่า ก็ข้อมูลหาไม่เจอใน passage แปลว่าต้องตอบ No สิ อันนี้เข้าใจผิด! เราจะตอบ No ก็ต่อเมื่อ passage ให้มาอย่างนึง แต่โจทย์ให้ข้อมูลมาอีกอย่างนึง พูดอีกอย่างก็คือ เราจะตอบ ผิด เพราะเรารู้อันที่ถูก!!! แต่เราจะตอบ Not Given ก็ต่อเมื่อ ข้อมูลที่โจทย์ให้มา ไม่ได้ถูกพูดถึงใน passage หรือพูดอีกอย่างคือ เราจะตอบ Not Given เพราะหาข้อมูลที่ถูกไม่ได้!!
อีกข้อผิดพลาดที่เจอบ่อยๆ คือ ข้อมูลที่โจทย์ให้มาดูเหมือนจะถูกในความเป็นจริง แต่ไม่มีพูดถึงใน passage แบบนี้ให้ตอบ Not Given!!
ระวัง paraphrase ให้ดี เพราะบางทีเปลี่ยนคำนิดๆ หน่อยๆ แต่ถ้าความหมายเปลี่ยนขึ้นมา ก็ต้องตอบ No/False แต่ถ้าคงความหมายเดิม ก็ตอบ Yes/True ได้เลย

คำถามประเภทนี้ คือ การเอาคำมาเติมคำถามประแภทนี้ เป็นหนึ่งในประเภทที่ให้น้องใส่คำตอบของตัวเองลงไป ไม่ต้องใส่ A,B,C แล้ว แต่ก็ไม่ต้องกลัวไป เพราะข้อสอบไม่ได้ให้น้องคิดคำตอบขึ้นมาเองขนาดนั้น เค้าให้เราหยิบคำจากใน passage มาตอบ เลือกมาหนึ่งคำ และ copy ลงไปเด๊ะๆเลย
Tips :
จำไว้ว่า คำถามประเภทนี้ บางทีสามารถตอบได้มากกว่า 1 คำ อาจจะตอบคำเดียว หรือตอบเป็น phrase หลายคำก็ได้ ส่วนใหญ่แล้วจะกำหนดไม่เกิน 3 คำ

คำถามประเภทนี้ คือ กา Choice A,B,Cประเภทนี้ น่าจะเป็นประเภทที่น้องๆคุ้นเคยที่สุดแล้ว เพราะมันจะคล้ายๆ กับข้อสอบ Reading ทั่วๆไป ที่น้องๆ เจอในโรงเรียน หรือในข้อสอบตัวอื่นๆ เช่น ข้อสอบ SAT หรือ ACT น้องๆ ก็แค่อ่าน Passage ที่ให้มา จับประเด็นให้ได้ หา main idea และ supporting detail และตอบคำถามแต่ละข้อ เลือก Choice ให้ถูกต้องแค่นั้นเอง
Tips :
ความยากของคำถามสไตล์นี้ ส่วนใหญ่จะเกิดจากความลังเล ของตัวน้องเอง ไม่มั่นใจว่าควรตอบข้อไหน อาจจะเป็นเพราะยังเข้าใจ passage ไม่มากพอ คำแนะนำคือให้ลองเริ่มหาจากข้อที่ผิดก่อน แล้วค่อยๆ ตัด Choice ออกไป ค่อยๆ narrow down จนเหลือ 2 choice สุดท้าย แล้วเดาข้อที่น่าจะเป็นไปได้ที่สุด แบบนี้จะเพิ่มความเป็นไปได้ที่จะตอบคำถามข้อนั้นถูก
ลองอ่านคำถาม แล้วหาคำตอบไว้ในใจก่อน แล้วค่อยดุ choice ทีหลัง แบบนี้ Choice จะไม่ทำให้เราเขว ทำให้ตอบได้มั่นใจขึ้น ประหยัดเวลาขึ้นอีก

Type 3 : Completion
Completion คือ การเติมคำให้สมบูรณ์ จะมีช่องว่างมาให้หลากหลายรูปแบบมากๆ แบ่งออกเป็นประเภทย่อยๆ ได้อีก 5 ประเภทเลย
Sentence Completion
คำถามประเภทนี้ คือ การเติมคำลงในประโยคที่ไม่สมบูรณ์ โจทย์จะให้ประโยคทีไม่สมบูรณ์มา แต่ละประโยค จะมีช่องว่างๆ เว้นไว้ให้ ต้องหาคำมาเติมลงไป คำที่ใช้เติมลงไป ก็คือคำที่อยู่ใน passage น้องๆ ไม่ต้องคิดคำขึ้นมาเอง และคำที่นำมาเติมต้อง Perfect Fit! คือเหมาะสมทั้งความหมาย และ Grammar ถ้าคำที่น้องๆ เลือกมาจาก passage มันไม่เข้ากับ grammar ในประโยคเลย แสดงว่ายังเลือกคำมาไม่ถูกต้อง
Tips:
ระวังเรื่องของการสะกดคำ ให้ดีๆ ตัวพิมพ์เล็ก พิมพ์ใหญ่ เติม s/es

คำถามประเภทนี้ คือการเติมคำลงใน diagram ทางวิทยาศาสตร์ หรือ ทางเทคนิคหลายๆ ครั้งที่ passage จะเกี่ยวกับพวกความรู้ทางวิทยาศาสตร์ ขั้นตอนทางเทคนิคต่างๆ ดังนั้นโจทย์ประเภท diagram คือ การสรุปสิ่งที่อยู่ใน Passage ออกมาเป็นรูปภาพ หน้าที่ของน้องๆ คือ ทำความเข้าใจ passage ที่ให้มา และนำคำมาเติมลงในช่องว่างบน diagram ให้ถูกต้อง
Tips :
แนะนำวิธีการฝึกคำถามสไตล์นี้ ให้ลองอ่านบทความด้านวิทยาศาสตร์แบบพื้นฐาน ที่มีตามหนังสือวิทยาศาสตร์ หรือตรามหนังสือพิมพ์ดู เอาแบบที่มีรูปภาพประกอบบทความเป็นตัวช่วยอธิบายให้เห็นภาพ เข้าใจ passage มากขึ้น
ใช้คำศัพท์ที่อยู่บน Diagram เอาไป scan หาว่าคำศัพท์นี้ อยู่ในช่วงไหนของ passage จะทำให้หาเจอเร็วขึ้น

คำถามประเภทนี้ คือ การเติมคำลงใน Timeline บางครั้ง Passage ที่ให้มา จะเกี่ยวกับ Timeline การเกิดเหตุการณ์ต่างๆ หรือขั้นตอน step การทำสิ่งใดสิ่งหนึ่ง ดังนั้นโจทย์ประเภท Flow-chart คือการสรุปข้อมูลที่อยู่ใน passage มาสรุปออกมาเป็น Flow chart/Time line หน้าที่ของน้องๆ คือ ทำความเข้าใจ passage และหสคำที่เหมาสมมาเติมลงในช่องว่างบน Flow-chart
Tips :
สิ่งที่ต้องระวัง คือการอ่านแล้วสับสน ขั้นตอน/เหตุการณ์ใด เกิดก่อน เกิดหลัง โดยเฉพาะเวลาที่ passage อธิบาย ขั้นตอน/เหตุการณ์ แบบไม่เรียง time line มาให้ ย้อนไป ย้อนมา หรือ เวลาที่ passage อธิบาย ขั้นตอน/เหตุการณ์ต่างๆโดยใช้คำคล้ายๆกัน
