เนื่องจาก จำนวนสถาบัน/มหาวิทยาลัย ที่เปิดรับ Test-optional มากขึ้นเรื่อยๆ หลายๆ College/University ต้องการให้ความสำคัญกับ standardized test (Digital SAT หรือ ACT) น้อยลง ส่วนประกอบอื่นใน application ของน้องจึงมีความสำคัญมากขึ้นหลายเท่าตัว ไม่ว่าจะเป็น GPA, Transcript, คะแนน AP Exam, Extracurricular activities, และ College Essay. ความสำคัญของ College Essay ยิ่งมีน้ำหนักมากขึ้นไปอีก ดังนั้น ไม่ว่าหัวข้อ essay จะน่ากังวลมากแค่ไหน ขอให้รู้ไว้ว่านี่คือโอกาสทอง โอกาสที่สำคัญที่สุด ที่จะ convince admission committee ให้เลือกเรา!

Below is the complete set of Common App essay prompts for 2023-2024.

  • Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.

  • The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?

  • Reflect on a time when you questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking? What was the outcome?

  • Reflect on something that someone has done for you that has made you happy or thankful in a surprising way. How has this gratitude affected or motivated you?

  • Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others.

  • Describe a topic, idea, or concept you find so engaging that it makes you lose all track of time. Why does it captivate you? What or who do you turn to when you want to learn more?

  • Share an essay on any topic of your choice. It can be one you've already written, one that responds to a different prompt, or one of your own design.

Cornell University

  • In the aftermath of the U.S. Civil War, Ezra Cornell wrote, "I would found an institution where any person can find instruction in any study." For over 150 years, Cornell University has remained deeply commited to Ezra;s vision. Explain how your life experiences will help inform your contributions to a learning community devoted to "...any person...any study." We encourage you to think broadly about your life experiences, including how local (e.g. family, school, neighborhood) or global communities you;ve been part of have helped shape your perspective.

Columbia University

  • You may use the space below to list any additional results or predicted scores from academic examinations you have taken or plan to tale. These exams may include international Baccalaureate, A levels, school leaving exams/certificates, AIME, AMC 10, national exams or other results you would like for us to consider. Many students will not have additional information to share. If this is the case, the space below should be left blank (optional/100 words)

Harvard University

  • Briefly describe an intellectual experience that was important to you. (200 words)

  • Briefly describe any of your extracurricular activities, employment experience, travel, or family responsibilities that have shaped who you are. (200 words)

  • Top 3 things your roommates might like to know about you. (200 words)

Princeton University

  • Princeton has a longstanding commitment to understanding our responsibility to society through service and civic engagement. How does your own story intersect with these ideals? (250 words or fewer)

  • Princeton values community and encourages students, faculty, staff and leadership tp engage in respectful conversations taht can expand their perspective member of this community, reflect on how your lived experiences will impact the conversations you will have in the classroom, the dining hall or other campus spaces. Yale University

  • Please respond to "one" od the following prompts in 400 words or fewer. Please indicate the number of prompt you choose.

    • Reflect on a time you discussed an issue important to you with someone holding an opposing view. Why did you find the experience meaningful?

    • Reflect on your membership in a community to which you feel connected. Why is this community meaningful to you? You may define community however you like.

    • Reflect on an element of your personal experience that you feel will enrich your college. How has it shaped you?

    • Exponents and square roots, pencils and erasers, beta decay and electron capture. Name two things that undo each t=other and explain why both are necessary - Inspired by Emmett Cho, Class of 2027.

    • "Where have all the flowers gone?" - Pete Seeger. Picj a question from a song title or lyric and give it your best answer. - Inspired by Ryan Murphy, AB'21.
