เวลาน้องยื่นสมัครกับ TOP US University/IVY League นี่คือ 3 สิ่งแรกที่ admission committee จะพิจารณา และ อีก 2 สิ่งถัดมา ที่มีความสำคัญไม่แพ้กัน คือ

ใน Application ของน้องจะต้องมีทั้งหมด 5 ส่วนประกอบด้วยกัน แต่อย่างไรก็ตามสิ่งที่จำเป็นอย่างที่ 6 คือ! English Proficiency test! ถึงแม้ทุก College/University พร้อมเปิดรับนักเรียนจากทั่วโลก เพราะต้องการนักเรียนจากหลากหลาย Background แต่ด้วยความที่เราไม่ใช่ local แต่เป็น International student ภาษาอังกฤษไม่ใช่ first language ดังนั้น College/University ต้องการรู้ว่าน้องสามารถเข้าเรียนใน class ภาษาอังกฤษได้ คะแนน English Proficiency Test จึงสำคัญอย่างยิ่ง!
โดยเฉพาะน้องๆ ที่เรียนภาคปกติ (เรียนภาษาไทยมาตลอด) ยิ่งต้องสอบ English Proficiency แน่นอน แต่สำหรับน้องๆ ที่เรียนโรงเรียนนานาชาติ หรือ ใช้ภาษาอังกฤษ มาตลอดอยู่แล้ว บาง College/University ก็ละเว้นให้น้องไม่ต้องสอบ English Proficiency Test ได้ ซึ่งตรงนี้ต้องดู requirement ของแต่ละมหาวิทยาลัยให้ละเอียดอีกที โดยเข้าไปดูใน website ของมหาวิทยาลัยได้โดยตรงเลย

English Proficiency Tests
ข้อสอบ English Profiency Test ตัวที่ popular ที่สุดมีอยู่ 2 ตัวด้วยกันคือ Test of English as a Foreign Langaue (TOEFL) และ International English Language Testing System Academic (IELTS Academic) ทั้งสองตัวนี้เป็นที่ยอมรับกับทุก College/University ในอเมริกาเลย และยังมีอีก 2-3 ตัว ที่เป็นที่ยอมรับบ้างในบางที่ อย่างเช่น Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic), Duolingo English Test (DET), หรือ Cambridge English Assessment
บาง College/University เปิดกว้าง โดยบอกว่าหากน้องมีคะแนน Standardized test จากข้อสอบตัวอื่นๆ ที่อยากจะแสดงให้ admission committee เห็นถึงความสามารถด้านภาษาอังกฤษของน้อง ก็ส่งมาให้ดูได้เลย เช่น่ AP, IB, A-levels, Digital SAT Reading and Writing, ACT English and Reading หรืออื่นๆ อีกมากมาย
หลายๆสถาบันกำหนด minimum requirement แต่ก็มีอีกหลายๆ สถาบันที่ไม่ได้กำหนดว่าต้องได้คะแนนเท่าไหร่ ทำให้เดาได้ยากว่า คะแนนเท่าไหร่ถึงจะพอ ดังนั้นพี่ๆ KPH แนะนำว่า ทำให้ดีที่สุดเท่าที่จะเป็นไปได้ได้เลย!
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
เป็น Standardized Academic English Test สอบเพื่อสมัครเข้ามหาวิทยาลัยในสหรัฐอเมริกา และบางแห่งนอกสหรัฐอเมริกา ข้อสอบมีหลายแบบ แบบที่ popular ที่สุดคือ TOEFL iBT และ TOEFL Essentials
แบบอื่น ได้แก่ TOEFL ITP (Institutional Testing Program), TOEFL Junior, TOEFL Primary รูปแบบอื่นๆ เหล่านี้สามารถสอบได้แต่ผ่านทางโรงเรียนของน้องๆ เท่านั้น
ส่วนใหญ่แล้ว College/University จะรับ TOEFL IBT อย่างไรก็ตาม บางมหาวิทยาลัยก็รับแบบอื่นด้วยเช่นกัน ดังนั้น แนะนำว่า ให้น้องๆ Check requirement ให้ถี่ถ้วนในเว็บไซต์ของสถาบันอีกครั้งหนึ่ง

เป็นข้อสอบวัดระดับภาษาอังกฤษ ที่เป็นยอมรับทั่วโลก แบ่งออกเป็น 2 แบบด้วยกัน คือ IELTS Acedemic และ IELS General Training
ซึ่ง IELTS Acedemic คือตัวที่เอาไว้ใช้สำหรับยื่นสมัครเรียนต่อในระดับมหาวิทยาลัย
ประกอบไปด้วย 4 parts คือ Reading, Speaking, Listening, Writing
คะแนน: Band 0 - 9
ในประเทศไทยสามารถสมัครสอบได้กับทาง IDP หรือ British Council

สนามสอบมีหลายที่ให้เลือกด้วยกัน เช่น Thammasat University, Pearson Professional Centers, KMUTT, etc.

IVY League's English Proficiency Test Requirement (2023-2024)
Brown University
We highly recommend that international applicants for whom English is not a first language or a primary language spoken at home submit the results of an English proficiency test. At this time, we accept results for TOEFL, IELTS, and DET.
We will also accept the TOEFL IBT Home Edition. Please arrange for Brown to receive the official results. A minimum score of 105 on the TOEFL internet-based exam, a minimum score of 8.0 on the IELTS, or a minimum score of 130 on the Duolingo is expected in most cases. We do not currently accept the IELTS Indicator Examination.

Columbia University
To be considered for admission to Columbia, you must be comfortable with rapid and idiomatic spoken English. There are several different ways to demonstrate that you are proficient in English on your application:
Your home language is English.
Your primary language of instruction at school has been English for the duration of your secondary school career.
You earned one or more of the following subsection scores on the SAT or ACT:
700 or higher on the Evidence Based Reading and Writing section of the SAT (either paper or digital administration)
29 or higher on the English or Reading sections of the ACT
If you meet one or more of the above criteria, you have fulfilled Columbia’s English language proficiency requirement. If you do not, you will need to take one of the following English Language Proficiency exams.
TOEFL : A minimum score of 105 (Internet-based test) is necessary for admission to Columbia.
IELTS : A minimum score of 7.5 is necessary for admission to Columbia.
DET : A minimum score of 135 on the current DET is necessary for admission to Columbia.
Cambridge English Qualification : A minimum score of 191 on the current C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency Cambridge English Exams is necessary for admission to Columbia.

Cornell University
Cornell College does require a level of English proficiency in order to be successful in your coursework and student life. While a formal English proficiency test is not required, we do need proof of English proficiency before you will be admitted. Dartmouth University

Harvard University
A strong knowledge of English is essential for successful study at Harvard, including the ability to understand and express thoughts quickly and clearly. Although you are not required to take an English proficiency exam (such as the TOEFL, IELTS, etc.), you may submit scores if you wish to do so.

Yale University
Yale requires that non-native English-speakers who have not taken at least two years of secondary education where English is the medium of instruction submit the results from any of the proficiency tests listed below.
TOEFL : Yale’s most competitive applicants have scores of at least 100 on the internet-based TOEFL.
IELTS : Yale’s most competitive applicants have IELTS scores of 7 or higher.
Cambridge English Qualifications : Yale’s most competitive applicants have Cambridge English scores of 185 or higher on the C1 Advanced, C2 Proficiency, or B2 First exams.

Princeton Unviersity
If English is not your native language and you are attending a school where English is not the language of instruction, you must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) the International English Language Testing System Academic (IELTS Academic) or the Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic)
You are not required to take the TOEFL, IELTS or PTE Academic if English is your native language or if you have spent at least three years at a secondary school where English is the primary language of instruction.

Generally, we receive English proficiency exam results from applicants whose native language is not English and/or the primary language of instruction at their secondary school is not English. Please note that fluency in English is a prerequisite for admission to Stanford.
If you wish to take an English proficiency exam but feel that the cost is a financial burden for you, we offer fee waivers for the Duolingo English Test. We are only able to offer fee waivers to students who have demonstrated financial need through a complete submitted application. University of Southern California (USC)
International applicants will not be required to submit SAT or ACT scores as part of their USC application. However, those whose native language is not English will still be required to demonstrate English proficiency and may wish to include their exam scores to do so. Boston College (BC)
In addition to submitting ACT or SAT scores, Boston College requires that non-U.S. citizens submit TOEFL (CEEB Code: 3083), IELTS, or Duolingo English Test examination scores.
The English proficiency requirement can be waived if an applicant meets at least one of the following three options:
English is your native language;
You have attended a U.S. high school or another majority native English speaking country for at least three years, and you are enrolled in a traditional academic curriculum without ESOL coursework; or
You score 650 or above on the SAT EBRW or 29 or better on the ACT English section.
